Strengthening Youth Understanding of Climate Change and Social Accountability in Climate Governance is a focused capacity-building session being organized as part of Climate Week Karachi by the Climate Action Center, in collaboration with Transparency International Pakistan, with Bahria University as the spatial partner.
The session aims to empower university students and young leaders with a foundational understanding of climate change and the governance systems that shape climate action in Sindh. While climate change continues to pose serious risks to communities, livelihoods, and ecosystems, youth remain a critical yet under-engaged stakeholder group in climate governance processes. This session addresses the existing gap in youth awareness regarding climate policies, institutional frameworks, and mechanisms for transparency and accountability.
Through interactive discussions, expert-led inputs, and participatory group exercises, participants will gain insights into climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience strategies, with a specific focus on the Sindh Climate Change Policy 2022. The session will also introduce concepts of social accountability, access to information, and the role of youth in promoting transparency within climate governance systems.
By the end of the session, participants will be better equipped to assess community-level climate vulnerabilities, engage constructively in policy and governance processes, and contribute meaningfully to local climate action initiatives. The session also aims to foster collaboration and networking among youth, academic faculty, and organizations working in the climate and governance space.
